In addition to being the first YCS of all time to include the switch to Battle Pack 2 Draft before the beginning of the Top 16, this was the first North American YCS of 2014, the first North American YCS under the January 2014 banlist, and the first YCS to see the introduction of an online pairings checker (https://yugiohpairings.konami.com/Pairings.aspx?t=17) that can be used to check on anyone so long as you have their COSSY number. Cool stuff!
In other news, Pat Hoban's 9-0 run with Mermails on Day 1 reignited a discussion on the merits of the previously-struggling deck in the new format, while Tahmid Zaman put in another impressive showing with Hieratic Rulers despite the deck appearing to see less play compared to ARGCS Nashville.
