It appears that TCGPlayer.com is following ARG's lead and getting into the premier event business! From what I've been able to find out, so far there are at least two scheduled events:
-The inaugural YGO Series Open in Orlando, FL on May 17th, featuring $800.00 in store credit for 1st place and $2,500.00 in prizes overall.
-The TCGPlayer YGO Championship on October 24, featuring $3,200.00 in store credit for 1st place and $10,000 in prizes overall.
What seems to make these tournaments different from what we've seen before is their point system - for example, making Top 16 at an event awards you 20 points. Collecting 20 points marks you to be eligible for the 10k Championship, but you can also trade the points in for exclusive merchandise or byes at future events.
Anyways, I guess there isn't much else to talk about right now. Time will tell if these tournaments have what it takes to stack up to that of Konami and ARG.
