LVAL World Premiere: The First Monarch

I was taken by surprise today when Konami announced a new World Premiere card for Legacy of the Valiant that supports Monarchs of all things! Take a look:

Continuous Trap

Special Summon this card as an Effect Monster (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 6/ATK 1000/DEF 2400). (This card is also still a Trap Card.) If Summoned this way: You can discard 1 card, then declare 1 Attribute; this card becomes that Attribute, and can be treated as 2 Tributes for the Tribute Summon of a monster with the same Attribute as this card. While this card is treated as a monster, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except monsters with this card’s Attribute.

So basically, it looks like this card is aimed at supporting the recent Mega Monarch cards. As a recent Monarch player, I'm personally still not that interested in the Mega Monarchs because using this card would still require you to give up two cards to summon them, the only difference is that you'll discard instead of tribute. Don't get me wrong, that method IS a lot easier, but I'm still not that impressed.

However, you can still use it without the Mega Monarchs, as regular tribute material or a Rank 6 enabler. It can also function as a neat little wall to protect you during your opponent's turn. What's also interesting is that you could even use this in a Frog Monarch deck if you wanted to, because as soon as you activate and Tribute the card, your backrow is free again for Treeborn to come back. I'm not saying that's necessarily the best strategy, but it is a possibility. I really like this card! Anyways, thanks for reading!
